Santa Maria d’Orfes and its associated parish have been documented since as early as 1146. The church of Santa Maria d'Orfes is a Neoclassical building constructed between 1762 and 1771.

Culture

The Capella de Sant Roc d’Orfes is also part of the history of the village. It stands on a small hill above the village. Its construction is associated with the plague, which particularly severely affected this area in the 17th century. The Capella is in a state of ruin; the walls and vaulted arches have survived.

Another point of interest is the Creu de Can Gay d’Orfes. It was formerly used to bless the municipality.

Nature

The Resclosa d’Orfes lies in a shady river landscape surrounded by fields and is easily accessible on foot from Orfes. The structure served to dam up water and divert part of the Fluvià into a canal.

Paths

A signposted path connects Orfes with Canelles. The Ruta per les ribes del Fluvià route begins at Plaça major d’Orfes and leads via Carretera d’Orfes and La Resclosa back to Plaça major d'Orfes. Its course therefore identifies the starting point in the village, the road, the Resclosa and the return route to the square. The route connects the village area with the river landscape and passes the structure that once served to regulate and divert water on the Fluvià.

The signposted route lists the individual stops in a fixed sequence: From Plaça major d’Orfes, the route leads via Carretera d’Orfes to La Resclosa and then back to the square. The starting point, intermediate stop and return therefore all lie within the route described. The connection to Canelles is also one of the signposted paths from Orfes.
