Regencós: Village Walls, Sant Vicenç and Beaches

Regencós lies at the foot of Quermany Gros. It is a small settlement made of stone. The streets are narrow. Cultivated fields surround the village. Forests surround the village as well.

Quermany Gros is a plateau-shaped hill. It is a characteristic landscape feature of a large part of Baix Empordà.

The village scenery brings together densely built-up stone streets and the open surroundings of fields and forests. Quermany Gros thus represents both the immediate setting of Regencós and the landscape of the wider Baix Empordà.

The small settlement therefore preserves different spatial impressions: narrow streets within the village, cultivated areas at its edge and wooded areas in the surroundings. The plateau-shaped hill forms a distinctive landscape element alongside them.

Culture

The walls of Regencós form a rectangular outline. A corner tower is located in the southwest. Another tower stands in the western area. The walls may date from the 14th and 15th centuries.

The Església de Sant Vicenç was completed around 1815. It has a single-nave layout. Side chapels are also part of its structure. The apse is polygonal. Until 1788, the Església de Sant Vicenç belonged to the parish of Begur.

The gateway, church and fortifications indicate different periods within the village scenery. The portal of Cases Noves No. 15 preserves the date 1782 and a patriarchal cross. Thus, the streets of Regencós contain both a dated portal and the rectangular walled complex with its towers.

Puigcalent is a group of farmhouses. The houses date from the 17th and 18th centuries. The group is located 800 metres from the village of Regencós.

The Rajoleria de Josep Ferrer is considered the last surviving testimony. This testimony concerns the tile-making craft of Regencós.

Festivals

La Castanyada in Regencós is a popular festival. Roasted chestnuts are prepared at the festival. They are tasted there. La Castanyada also includes leisure and cultural activities.
