Ger: Trails along the Segre, mountain landscapes and architecture

Nature

A 420-metre-long, flat path runs along the Segre, can be reached on foot from Ger and is suitable for families. The municipality of Ger extends for about one kilometre on both sides of the Segre. More than a third of Ger’s municipal area lies at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. The section of the Segre near Ger lies within the Riberes de l’Alt Segre Natura 2000 site. The area between the Feixa refuge and Puigpedrós also belongs to the Tossa Plana-Puigpedrós Natura 2000 site.

Around Ger are the summit of Pic de les Molleres del Puigpedrós, the mountain of la Tosa, the summit of les Suquetes and the summit of Pic de Mollet. In the wider regional area around Ger are the Emprius de la Llosada and Parc Infantil parks.

Hiking and mountain biking routes

La Ronda de Ger follows hiking trail 170 through the Les Valls stream area and can be extended towards Coforn and Niula. Route 18 Ger–All–Montmalús–Ger begins in Ger, follows the Camí de Sant Jaume part of the way to All, climbs to Montmalús and then returns to the starting point. A 19-kilometre mountain biking route from Ger leads via Sant Pere, Gréixer, Montmalús, Coforn and Niula back to Ger and has an elevation gain of 550 metres.

An approximately 32-kilometre route from Ger leads via Gréixer, Montmalús, the Cabanella refuge and the Feixa refuge, returning to Ger via Meranges. An approximately 7.5-kilometre circular route from Ger, with around 125 metres of elevation gain, leads to the Prades de Segre by the river and the Quadres sanctuary before returning via All and the Serra d’All. A 9-kilometre circular route from Ger, with around 350 metres of elevation gain, leads via Gréixer and Niula back to Ger.

Culture

The 12th-century portal of Santa Eugènia de Saga is made of marble from Isòvol and has four recessed archivolts. Its capitals are decorated with depictions of birds and foliage. The 18th-century door of Santa Coloma de Ger is made of pink marble from Isòvol; the carved stones of the door jambs depict hunters and dogs. Santa Coloma de Ger is a building extensively reconstructed in the 18th century whose main door preserves Romanesque ironwork.

The Museo de Acuarelas de Cal Sindreu houses a significant art collection in a farmhouse that preserves the character of rural Pyrenean architecture. Sant Climent de Gréixer is a rural 12th-century building whose portal is made of marble from Isòvol. In the wider regional area around Ger is the Museu Municipal De Llívia museum.
