Culture and History

The Ermita del Santo Cristo de los Remedios was built in 1792 and is located on the road towards El Piélago. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, also known as the Ermita del Guadyerbas, is a rectangular chapel dating from the 16th century and can be seen from the adjacent path.

The Palacio de los Marqueses is a Baroque building constructed in 1697 on the foundations of a medieval fortress. The Fuente de la plaza, an 18th-century fountain with an octagonal basin and a parapet made of large stone blocks, is located on Plaza Comandante Rodrigo. Four watermills in varying states of preservation stand along the road from Navamorcuende towards El Real de San Vicente.

Traditions

The Belén Viviente de Navamorcuende takes place annually in three performances around Christmas. It recreates more than fifty traditional occupations and activities, including flour and oil mills, washerwomen, looms, blacksmithing and basket weaving.

Between 150 and 200 volunteer participants take part in the living nativity scene.

The PR-TO 58 Ruta del Pantano begins in the south of Navamorcuende on Calle Cambija and passes through the countryside. It has interpretive signage, runs through dense oak and pine forests, and then reaches the Piélago dam on the Guadyerbas Reservoir.

The Ruta del Boquique connects Navamorcuende with the surrounding countryside and the Cueva del Boquique archaeological site. The Cueva del Boquique is a prehistoric archaeological site in Navamorcuende; remains were found there that gave their name to the well-known Boquique pottery.

The Melojar de la Sierra de San Vicente is a wooded area in Navamorcuende with oaks, chestnut trees, holm oaks, Pyrenean oaks, hawthorns and ash trees. The trees can live for up to 600 years and reach a diameter of up to two metres.
