La Iglesuela – Churches, Bridges and Trails along the Tiétar River
La Iglesuela del Tiétar is part of the Sierra de San Vicente.
Nature and Trails
The area around the Tiétar River offers opportunities for walks and leisurely hikes in and around La Iglesuela del Tiétar. The PR-TO 53 passes through areas characterised by stone walls, holm-oak dehesas, ash meadows and pine forests before reaching the riverside landscape of the Tiétar River. Its official starting point is at kilometre 1.6 of the CM-5053 road.
The PR-TO 20 also connects La Iglesuela del Tiétar with the Tiétar River via extensive dehesas, passing through meadows, stone walls and lush vegetation. The PR-TO 20 hiking trail is suitable for mountain biking. For planning purposes, the landscape, starting point and type of activity can be considered separately; they represent different ways of mentally structuring a day. Walks and leisurely hikes can thus be distinguished from the explicitly stated suitability for mountain biking.
Culture and Townscape
The Iglesia de Santa María de la Oliva is a late Gothic church from the 16th century with three naves, a distinctive tower and a porticoed entrance. It retains its former cemetery enclosure.
The Ermita de la Fuente Santa is a chapel in a vernacular style dating from the 19th or 20th century. The Roman Bridge is a single-arch bridge with a semicircular arch over the Tiétar River.
The Medieval Bridge is a Roman bridge with three arches over the Garganta Torinas on the old road to Talavera. El Ejido is a group of stables and barns on the edge of the town near the threshing floors, with three livestock watering troughs, a horseshoeing stand and a livestock loading ramp.
The granite fountains with livestock watering troughs, built in the 18th century, are spread throughout the built-up area of the town. Some stone blocks bear stonemasons’ marks. At the cultural sites, dates, architectural forms and details of use help distinguish the individual stops from one another.

The feast of the Virgen de la Fuensanta in La Iglesuela del Tiétar falls on 1 May. The feast of Nuestra Señora de la Oliva in La Iglesuela del Tiétar falls on 8 September.
