Culture
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Huertos is located at the highest point of the small hill in Chillarón del Rey. The 16th-century Ermita de San Roque stands on Calle Mayor near the town exit.
The steep streets feature houses of traditional regional vernacular architecture with carved eaves and portals with wedge stones. There are also numerous grilles and wrought-iron works, especially from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Next to the old Ermita de San Roque west of the town centre, the Picota was erected as a symbol of the town's villazgo status. King Felipe II granted Chillarón the status of a villa in November 1569; afterwards, the town adopted the addition “del Rey” to its name.
