Los Eustaquios – Nature Trails, La Tobilla and La Ermita

Los Eustaquios is a settlement connected to Vega del Codorno. The combination of a short loop, a longer forest route, a riverside path and a cultural event offers several concrete points of comparison for planning your trip.

Nature Trails

At the Nacimiento del Río Cuervo, there is an approximately 1.5-kilometre loop that leads to the source and the cascades. There is also a marked, 11-kilometre trail through the pine forest with panoramic views. The different route lengths provide two clearly distinguishable benchmarks for planning your own trip. La Tobilla is a tributary of the Río Cuervo. The name of the La Tobilla cascade refers to the type of rock on which it was formed.

The La Tobilla cascade lies at the end of an easy-to-walk path that follows the river. The path to the cascade follows the approximately two-kilometre Las Vaquerizas dirt track. The loop, the marked forest route and the riverside path differ in length and character; these details can be compared side by side when planning your day.

Culture

From Los Eustaquios, La Ermita can be reached by crossing the Río Cuervo. La Ermita stands on a hill at the edge of the valley and near a spring. La Ermita is accessible from the west side. On its southern side, there is a masonry wall made of unusually large stones for the local buildings. La Ermita could be a Celtiberian castro; however, it has neither been studied nor dated.

In Vega del Codorno, the Belén Viviente, a festival of regional tourist interest, usually takes place on the Saturday before Christmas Eve. During the event, the residents of Vega del Codorno portray various carefully designed biblical scenes and embody shepherds, artisans and other figures from the Gospel narrative.

Hiking

One stage starts at Casa Juana in Los Eustaquios, crosses the Río Cuervo via a bridge and joins the GR-66. A hiking route from the Cueva del Nacimiento via the Hoz de Marichica passes through Los Eustaquios and then connects to the CUV-9211 towards the Río Cuervo in the La Pascasia area.
