Discover Tarancón: Culture, Pilgrimages and Holiday Apartments
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the Monument category on 18 October 2002. Its bell tower is 40 metres high and bears the nickname “La Giralda Manchega”. The Museo Emiliano Lozano includes a room with portraits of people from the region and landscapes of Tarancón.
Culture
The Arco de la Malena was the main entrance to the walled district of Tarancón, more precisely to the so-called El Castillejo neighbourhood, and leads directly to the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. As a medieval structure, it formed part of Tarancón’s former defence system. The Arco de la Malena is freely accessible at no charge.
The old town of Tarancón has narrow streets and lively squares such as the Plaza del Caño. The exterior of the Convento de los Franciscanos de Tarancón is visible from the public road; interior visits are only possible with express permission. Historic buildings, museums and squares offer different forms of cultural discovery.
Casa Parada has been documented since the 16th century. Its façade dates from the 18th century and is dated to 1730; the woodwork and iron grilles are designed in the Herrerian style. The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in the Auditorio Municipal displays paintings and photographs that the city council has acquired since 1985 from works submitted to the “Ciudad de Tarancón” art competitions. The museum is open to students and the general public.
Restaurante La Martina reinterprets the cuisine of La Mancha with creativity and high-quality products.
Traditions
Semana Santa de Tarancón is recognised as a festival of regional tourist interest. The Semana Santa processions pass through the centre of Tarancón. The Ermita de la Virgen de Riánsares is the sanctuary where Tarancón’s patron saint rests for part of the year, and the focal point of two pilgrimages deeply rooted in local tradition. The key dates for these pilgrimages to the Virgen de Riánsares are 28 January and 15 August.
Nature
The area around the Río Riánsares offers walking trails and recreational areas. For planning the day, these two options can be considered separately: a walking trail represents physical activity, while a recreational area offers a more leisurely break.
For a holiday apartment in Tarancón, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be checked separately on an offer page. The three fields concern the desired period, the selected category and the conditions for changing or cancelling; when comparing, this information remains clearly differentiated.
