One of the prominent cultural attractions in El Provencio is the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, regarded as one of the town’s most important buildings. The Ruta de Arte Urbano also runs through the centre of town: more than 40 murals are spread across prominent locations. The Museo del Cómic preserves comics and comic books from the 19th century to the present day. It can be visited through the tourist office.
Culture
The Aula didáctica del Paleolítico complements this cultural perspective with a model, reconstructions of hominid skulls, stone artefacts and weapons. The Bodega-Museum del Doctor Plaza is housed in a typical Castilian building and displays thousands of objects from rural everyday life. Guided tours and tastings present the history of winemaking in the region.
History
Underground spaces are also part of El Provencio’s historical character. Before the age of refrigerators, traditional caves in the houses of El Provencio were used to store food and ferment wine. The tourist office regularly organises visits to some of the traditional underground caves in El Provencio. For the Ruta de Arte Urbano, it is recommended that you visit the tourist office in advance to register for the visit and obtain up-to-date information about the route.
You can organise the attractions according to the type of access you prefer: a walking tour, a visit and a trail connected with the landscape are different ways to get to know El Provencio. For your own planning, you can focus on art, collections, early human history, winemaking or the waterscape. The locations and trails mentioned stand as separate topics, without any prescribed order of visits.
When choosing a holiday apartment in El Provencio, you can compare the travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions on the respective offer pages. The details of travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions provide objective points of comparison for your own planning. They stand independently alongside the cultural attractions, caves and waterways; what matters is your personal travel plan.
Other Places
Other destinations to discover include Villares Del Saz, Ribatajada, Valdecañas, Villamayor De Santiago, Castillo De Garcimuñoz, Talayuelas, Valdemoro-Sierra and Mota Del Cuervo.
Nature
The “Caminos de agua” focus on the Záncara River, its landscapes and the remains of traditional architecture along its course. One route begins in El Provencio, crosses the N-301 on a paved path towards the cemetery and ends at Castillo de Santiago de la Torre. Another route runs through El Provencio parallel to the canal that supplied water to several mills that are still visible. You can consider the different routes separately if you would like to combine trails, landscapes and local history in your own order.
