Nature

Parque del Cerrico Billote has a botanical nature trail with information about the local flora. The park also has an area set up as a picnic area. It is located north of the town on a footpath that passes under the bypass road.

Culture and History

Fuente-Álamo is home to the Iglesia Parroquial de San Dionisio Areopagita, a neoclassical church dating from the 18th century. There are also prehistoric and historic open-air archaeological sites from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iberian and Roman periods. The Iberian oppidum of Fortaleza is characterised by a large L-shaped wall; in antiquity, the site was called “Magneton”.

Semana Santa is also associated with several local brotherhoods: the Hermandad de Jesús Nazareno, the Hermandad de La Dolorosa and the Hermandad de San Juan take part. Regular features include the meeting procession on Good Friday and the Easter Sunday procession celebrating the Resurrection.

Festivals and Food

The Ruta de la Tapa in Fuente-Álamo usually takes place in March over two consecutive weekends. Tapas and wines can be sampled at various establishments in the town. The Fiestas Patronales de San Dionisio Areopagita honour the patron saint San Dionisio Areopagita and take place from 8 to 12 October.

San Marcos is celebrated on 25 April with a two- to three-day gathering in the El Cotico area. Traditionally, this includes hornazo, a sweet pastry, together with boiled eggs. The Baile de los Gazpachos takes place on the evening of 14 August at the Dionisio El Chaparro football pitch. There, gazpachos manchegos, a typical dish of the municipality, are prepared over a wood fire; there is also a gazpacho competition.

The Feria de Tradiciones takes place in May. It offers a traditional market with handcrafted items and demonstrations of traditional crafts; tastings are also available. The Semana Cultural in Fuente-Álamo follows in the first half of August. It combines leisure and sports activities, craft workshops and cultural activities such as theatre performances, concerts, dance and other events. The Ruta del Vino at Enoturismo Mainetes includes visits to an ethnographic museum and a wine museum.

Activities

A road race takes place in Fuente-Álamo every summer. A BTT event is also held in summer as part of the Albacete provincial circuit. The Fuente-Álamo BTT circuit includes a long route of 40.4 km and a short route of 23.1 km. The different lengths of the two routes allow you to compare them directly when planning your own itinerary.
