The archaeological camp of Salces lies on a 942 m-high ridge directly southeast of the elevation on which the Castro of La Guariza is located. More recent interpretations regard the archaeological camp of Salces as a possible Roman castellum, but do not entirely rule out an Iron Age fortified settlement. Surveys at the archaeological camp of Salces identified ditches which, together with visible earthworks, reveal a fossa-agger system typical of Roman military camps.
