Holiday apartment in Perlora: Vía Verde, beaches and history
Perlora shows its special side where a historic holiday complex meets coastal paths, coves and museums in the surrounding area. Those who want to get to know the place not only through its beach, but also through its history and landscape, will find several clearly distinct themes here.
History
The Ciudad de Vacaciones de Perlora is a tourist complex with a pronounced historical and symbolic character in the municipality of Carreño. For decades, the historic complex of Perlora was a holiday destination for thousands of families from Asturias and across Spain. The site covers almost 36 hectares and was designed as a recreational destination for working families from all over Spain.
Nature
The Vía Verde del Tranqueru forms a striking connection between landscape and history. It is an easy, 10.4-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the Ciudad de Vacaciones de Perlora and has an estimated duration of 3 to 5 hours. The Vía Verde del Tranqueru connects the Ciudad de Vacaciones de Perlora with Xivares Beach and passes through cliffs, coves and old railway tunnels. In places, it follows the route of the former Carreño mining railway and runs between tunnels, coves and cliffs. The details on length and duration help put the time required for the circular route into perspective.
Coast
Carranques Beach is a 220-metre-long sandy beach with golden sand. It can be reached by road; parking, showers, toilets, sports courts, a children's playground and barbecue areas are available. Carranques consists of two small coves separated by a promontory and is located in the Ciudad Residencial de Perlora. The beach has moderate waves and is set in a scenic environment with coves, caves and lush vegetation. Beach length, shape and wave conditions provide separate criteria for comparing coastal areas.
The sandy beach of Huelgues offers a different coastal setting. It is located near the Ciudad Residencial de Perlora, is easy to reach on foot or by car, and parking is available. The rocky areas of Huelgues Beach contain a tidal ecosystem with limpets, sea urchins, octopuses and sea anemones. The Playas de Xivares are a beach in the vicinity of Perlora. Playa de Poniente, Playa de San Lorenzo and Playa Los Mayanes are beaches in the area around Perlora.
Culture
Four museums are located near Perlora: the Centro de Escultura Museo «Antón», the Exposición Permanente de la Industria Conservera de Candás, the Parque Arqueológico Natural de la Campa Torres and the Museo Maritimo de Luanco. For planning purposes, these museum destinations can be considered separately from the circular route and beach sections.
