Nature

The Río Campiezo crosses Hazas de Cesto from south to north and is one of the municipality’s most important natural assets. It rises in Solórzano. The Canastrillas and Valladares streams feed it and converge near the Ermita de San Roque.

In the southeast of Hazas de Cesto lies the Riolastras karst depression, also known as Rulastras, a polje.

The Fuente del Real karst spring is located in the Barrio El Rincón on Regional Road 266 between Hazas and Jesús del Monte. It is also the source of the Arroyo Chico.

Llusa is a 377-metre-high natural hill on the border between Hazas de Cesto and Ribamontán al Monte, covered with dense Mediterranean scrubland.

Culture and History

The Church of Santa María in Hazas de Cesto has a single-nave layout. Its construction history spans from the 16th to the 19th century; the last renovation took place in 1873.

In the first two bays of its nave, the church preserves Gothic pillars with continuous capitals. It also has a main altarpiece in the pre-Churrigueresque style, designed in 1671 by Agustín Irias and executed by Juan de la Puente Mazateve.

The Ermita de San Roque forms part of Hazas de Cesto’s religious cultural heritage and has a limestone altarpiece dating from 1756.

The Humilladero is located on the path from the Ermita de Jesús del Monte to the parish church, after crossing the Barrio del Rincón.

The Cueva de Los Moros contains a small group of prehistoric schematic-abstract rock paintings.

Hazas de Cesto’s cultural heritage includes Indian houses as well as traditional Montañes manor houses and residential districts.

Trails and Experiences

The Toca Trail connects Berezales with Hazas de Cesto and continues via the Barrio de Toca towards Solórzano, reaching as far as Tanaguillo.

The Campiezo Trail runs from Beranga parallel to the Río Campiezo and beneath the A-8 motorway bridge.

One route begins in Hazas de Cesto and ends at the Cueva de San Bernardino. The Cueva de San Bernardino can be visited from the inside.

Festivals and Cuisine

The Nuestra Señora festival takes place in Hazas de Cesto on 15 August.

The patron-saint festivals of the municipality of Hazas de Cesto take place from May to September in its three villages and include masses, processions and dances.

Getting There

The N-634 runs through Hazas de Cesto parallel to the A-8 motorway and provides good road access.
