Beranga: Architectural Heritage, Hiking Trails and Festivals

The Torre de los Isla in Beranga is a 17th-century ashlar stone tower bearing the Isla family coat of arms. At this building, you can consider the year and the family coat of arms as two separate features to examine.

Culture

The Iglesia de San Cipriano in Beranga has a Mannerist portal from the 17th century. Inside, it houses a pre-Churrigueresque Baroque altarpiece by Juan de la Puente Mazateve. The church was completed in 1626.

The Casa de los Villa in Beranga was built in 1540 on the property of Lucas de Villa and rebuilt in the 17th century. The Palacio de Villa was built in 1671 over the remains of an earlier tower.

Hiking

A footpath approximately 1,400 metres long connects Beranga with Praves. A route beginning in Somavilla in Beranga divides into three hiking trails. Another hiking trail connects the district of the same name with the end of Alto de la Vela.

The route can be continued with a turn-off to the Santiago Apóstol de Praves church on the Camino de Santiago. A small hiking trail runs from Beranga parallel to the Campiezo River beneath the A-8 motorway bridge and leads to the “Beranga-Hazas” pedestrian promenade.
