In the municipal area of Escobedo, in the municipality of Camargo, Castillo del Collado is protected as a site of cultural interest as an archaeological site. The consolidated ruins of Castillo del Collado make it possible to recognize the original military structure and gain an accurate impression of it. The protected area of Castillo del Collado includes a traditional footpath running along the western slope. As a result, the protected archaeological site, the visible historic structure and the course of the footpath are located here side by side as distinguishable features.

Culture and History

In the Barrio El Churi lies El Pendo Cave, in the municipality of Escobedo de Camargo, a few metres above sea level. The main chamber contains the Friso de las Pinturas, a 25-metre-long panel visible from every point in the main chamber and featuring around twenty red-painted figures. The archaeological site of El Pendo Cave provides important insights into human behaviour and the human and technological development of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens. This means that the site combines the direct observation of a visible painted frieze with broader archaeological significance.

Visits to El Pendo Cave are guided and last approximately 45 minutes. For planning your day, the guided visit, the historic ruins and an outdoor walk can be considered as distinct focal points. The different forms of interpretation give each historic site its own context without blurring its individual characteristics. The approximate duration of the tour therefore provides a different time reference from independently viewing the ruins or taking a walk outdoors.

Landscape

In the Barrio de Solacuesta in Escobedo de Camargo lies the former Cantera Bilbao marble quarry, which has been transformed into a special recreational area. Cantera Bilbao offers an attractive circular walk through its various levels. The focus here is therefore not only on the site's former use, but also on its present-day spatial layout along the circular route. The site thus brings together its historic designation as a former quarry and its current design as a recreational area in a single walk.

When comparing a holiday apartment in Escobedo, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions are separate details. Together, they help you consider the timeframe, the preferred type of accommodation and the conditions of an option separately, without mixing these points with the historic and landscape impressions of the place.

Architectural History

The Iglesia de San Pedro de Escobedo displays several structurally distinct elements from different periods. Its apse dates from the early 16th century, while the rest of the building dates from the mid to late 17th century. The main portal of the Iglesia de San Pedro de Escobedo is a Baroque example. The different construction periods make the apse and the rest of the building separately discernible parts; the portal adds its own stylistic feature to this sequence.

When viewing the church, you can therefore distinguish between the apse, the rest of the building and the portal. The main altarpiece of the Iglesia de San Pedro de Escobedo is considered one of the few surviving altarpieces in the region from the second half of the 16th century.
