The PR-S56 Río Rubionzo y la Zarrizuela hiking route begins in Abionzo. History

The PR-S56 Río Rubionzo y la Zarrizuela route includes remains of pre-industrial energy production through the use of hydropower since the 18th century. The Molino de Rubionzo mill illustrates how the inhabitants of this area intensively used their natural resources in the past. Today, the mill has been converted into a country house and preserves its machinery as well as the associated infrastructure, including bridges, dams, channels and cart tracks.

The Güemes-Campero family is associated with Abionzo. Personalities connected with the family include Gabriel de Güemes Montero, royal treasurer in the service of Charles III, and Martín Miguel de Güemes, a hero of Argentine independence.

For 22 August, the parish of San Cristóbal de Abionzo has announced a festival in honour of San Rocuco, with services at the Ermita de San Roque.
