In Tacoronte, the accessible Sendero Accesible de Agua García trail passes through remnants of the laurel forest. Its vegetation includes holm oaks, laurel trees, wild orange trees and Viñátigos. The trail forms part of the short PR-TF 25 Las Raíces–Acentejo hiking route in the Las Lagunetas protected landscape area, designated in 1994. It is 850 metres long, calculated as a round trip, and has an average gradient of 6%. The Sendero Accesible de Agua García was designed so that people with reduced mobility can experience the natural surroundings.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Tacoronte, you can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation policies on the respective offer pages. Nature and Coast
The coastal area of Mesa del Mar in Tacoronte lies within the Costa Acentejo protected landscape area. Part of this coast was designated a Site of Cultural Interest in the Archaeological Zone category in 2007 because of the numerous residential and burial caves of the Guanche culture. At Playa de La Arena beach, you can expect black sand and calm water.
The Hamilton Gardens Park offers another botanical perspective, with a tour through the native flora of the Canary Islands. Characteristic laurel and Fayal-Brezal species grow there, which are unusual in urban parks. The park also showcases various grape varieties and traditional vine-training systems used in the Canary Islands.
Culture
The parish church of Santa Catalina de Alejandría in Tacoronte has three naves and a bell tower. Its foundation dates back to 1545; today, it is officially recognised as a Site of Cultural Interest. The historic centre of Tacoronte has been recognised as a Historic Complex.
The self-guided religious heritage route „Tacoronte de mi alma“ is designed as a circular tour and focuses on the history, cultural heritage and culture of the municipality of Tacoronte. Its content covers religious architecture, sacred art and the intangible cultural heritage associated with local religious traditions. The content is available in Spanish, English, German, French and Italian.
The Sanctuary of the Most Holy Christ of Tacoronte was part of a former monastery complex that belonged to the Augustinian order until the dissolution of the monasteries by royal decree in 1837. The former San Agustín Monastery is now a publicly accessible venue where workshops, exhibitions, concerts and other cultural activities take place for residents and visitors.
Food and Wine-Growing
The Tacoronte farmers' market was founded in 1981 so that farmers could sell part of the agricultural produce from the Tacoronte-Acentejo region. Today, it sells natural products from the surrounding area, such as fruit, vegetables and fish, as well as handmade products such as pastries, cheese and honey. These products preserve Tacoronte's artisan tradition.
The Tacoronte-Acentejo designation of origin wine-growing region extends from the coast up to an altitude of 750 metres and includes, among others, Tacoronte, La Matanza, El Sauzal and Tegueste. Family-run wineries in this area offer wine tourism experiences in which visitors can immerse themselves in the wine-making process and taste wines.
For your own planning, you can consider the short nature trail, the religious heritage route, the coast, historic sites and wine-growing as different focuses alongside one another.

Several Guagua bus routes connect Tacoronte with Santa Cruz and La Laguna, making it possible to reach the historic centre by public transport.
