Culture
The Calvario de Las Cruces can be reached via a stone staircase. Las Cruces is also home to the Cristo del Calvario. The protected area of Hacienda de La Quinta Roja is bordered to the south by the road between San Pedro de Daute and Las Cruces. During Garachico’s traditional carnival, Sansusino is laid out and burned in the Barrio Las Cruces; the events begin on Friday, 20 February, and also include the “remamas o letanías”.
Nature and Landscape
The Sitio de Interés Científico de Interián is bordered to the east by the Las Cruces district of Garachico. The Acantilados de La Culata protected landscape has a cliff-dominated character, with remnants of thermophilous forest. A road from the Tierra del Trigo area descends along the steep slope to near Las Cruces. The road towards Las Cruces passes through a protected area containing the best stands of almácigos, palms and barbusanos in the entire protected zone.
Hiking and Routes
The TF-421 leads from the direction of San Juan del Reparo to Las Cruces and vice versa. Stage 5 reaches Las Cruces and then descends along the TF-421 towards San Pedro. From San Pedro, Stage 5 continues on a continuous downhill gradient with tight bends. The descent on Stage 5 offers a view of Playa de Garachico. For several metres, a section of the TF-421 on Stage 5 has neither a hard shoulder nor a pavement.
The Ruta de las Haciendas de Daute passes through the Las Cruces district and runs close to Hacienda El Carmen. The Los Silos–Garachico hiking trail reaches Las Cruces in its final section; this final section is paved and has only a slight incline.
Cycling Route
The cycling climb near Las Cruces has gradients of 5.6%, with only a few metres without any respite. The route section near Las Cruces is winding and offers continuous sea views. The landscape on the cycling climb near Las Cruces becomes increasingly more richly vegetated on the way to the summit.
