The municipality of El Paso is home to the Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente. Its natural depression has a diameter of eight kilometres and is approximately 1.5 kilometres deep. Extensive stands of Canarian pine trees, steep ravines and distinctive rocky ridges shape this landscape. The dimensions and terrain forms provide the viewpoints and paths with a clear spatial framework.

Nature and Trails

In the upper part of El Paso, the Mirador Llanos del Jable is located at an altitude of 1,200 metres. During the day, the view extends across the Valle de Aridane; in the foreground lies the old volcano Montaña Quemada. The Volcán de Tajogaite erupted on 19 September 2021 at 3:10 p.m. in the municipality of El Paso, on the ridge of the Cumbre Vieja.

The Mirador de la Cumbrecita is a natural viewing balcony at the end of a narrow valley. From there, the view overlooks the abyss of the Caldera; here, the natural depression has a diameter of 6.5 kilometres. Several hiking trails lead from this viewpoint into the park's well-maintained network of paths. Steep trails also lead through monumental pine forests in the Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente.

At night, the Mirador Llanos del Jable serves as a viewpoint for stargazing; La Palma is recognised as a Starlight Reserve because of the quality of its skies. In connection with the Volcán de Tajogaite, guided hikes are offered within the restricted zone. The different combinations of altitude, time of day, trail character and type of activity can be considered side by side when planning, without a single focus having to determine the stay.

Culture and Crafts

At the Museo de la Seda Las Hilanderas in El Paso, the tradition of silk production is preserved—from raising silkworms to weaving and embroidery. At the Taller de las Hilanderas, visitors can observe how the female artisans work using a process that has disappeared elsewhere in Europe. For personal day planning, nature observation, hiking trails and the workshop can be classified as different types of activity.

The wider overview of localities also includes Tacande and Triana. Further locality pages: Los Llanos De Aridane, El Tablado, Garafía, El Castillo, Villa De Mazo and Los Canarios.

When comparing a holiday apartment in El Paso, you can check travel dates, accommodation category and cancellation conditions against one another on the respective listing page.
