Triana on La Palma: Volcanic Cones, Trails and Festivals
Triana and the volcanic landscape can be linked to one name on La Palma: the Monumento Natural de los Volcanes de Aridane encompasses the volcanic cones Montaña Todoque, Montaña La Laguna, Montaña Triana and Montaña Argual.
Nature
The protected Monumento Natural de los Volcanes de Aridane covers 100.4 hectares; its purpose of protection is the geomorphological structure of the volcanic cones. The four cones are an example of Quaternary volcanism and form a coastal series running parallel to the coast of the Valle de Aridane. In the Monumento Natural de los Volcanes de Aridane, you can observe flora and fauna.
Trails
The sixth stage of the Camino Natural de La Palma climbs via the Camino de Triana. It is almost 22 kilometres long and passes through urban areas with traditional architecture, agricultural fields and impressive volcanic formations.
Because of the Tajogaite lava flows, the sixth stage of the Camino Natural de La Palma is temporarily interrupted. The stage resumes 2.9 kilometres later near the football pitch and athletics facility in Las Manchas, at the intersection of the LP-2 and LP-212 roads. The Monumento Natural de los Volcanes de Aridane can be reached by car via the LP-2 from Los Llanos de Aridane.
When planning independently, the stage's almost 22 kilometres, its interrupted section and the re-entry point described 2.9 kilometres later can be considered separately. A holiday apartment in Triana can be assessed based on travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. Nature, trails and culture remain different perspectives on this specific place.
Culture
The traditional Fiestas del Barrio de Triana are organised by the Ayuntamiento de Los Llanos de Aridane together with the Asociación de Vecinos Birigoyo. Their programme includes children's entertainment, competitions and live music celebrating the traditions of the Barrio de Triana. The Concurso de Escacho is one of the most emblematic programme items of the Fiesta in the Barrio de Triana.
At the second edition of EmprendeFEST, school pupils were introduced to the world of work in a practical environment through real-life challenges from the commercial sector. The second edition of EmprendeFEST was scheduled for Friday, 3 October 2025, as a mobile start-up fair on the Plaza de Triana.
The cultural topics focus on different aspects: community celebrations, a practical working environment and craft-based activities coexist in Triana without one replacing the other. This makes it possible to distinguish whether the focus should be more on the festival programme, engagement with professional topics or practical creative work; these perspectives complement the nature and trail sections.
In 2023, five of the seven craft course formats offered were held at the Asociación de Vecinos de Triana: Fibrolite, pottery, basket weaving, embroidery, and recycling and puppet making.
