Tarajalejo Beach is an urban beach with coarse black sand and generally calm water. It is more than 1,300 metres long and 45 metres wide and can be reached by public transport. When choosing a holiday apartment in Tarajalejo, beach type, size and accessibility by public transport can be considered as different features of the location.
Coast and Landscape
The official driving route through southern Fuerteventura names Tarajalejo as the first recommended stop. On 8 April 2026, part of Tarajalejo's seafront promenade was closed to traffic due to pending repairs. For planning your visit, the beach, driving route and promenade can be considered as separate points of reference.
Cycling
Cycle route 38 from Tuineje to Tarajalejo begins in the town of Tuineje and ends at Tarajalejo's Avenida Marítima. It passes through a dry landscape characterised by caliche.
Cycle route 39 begins at Tarajalejo's Avenida Marítima and runs along unpaved paths parallel to the east coast as far as La Lajita. It ends near Montañeta del Granillo. Along its route, it crosses several barrancos and small ravines; some of these present a certain degree of difficulty. For planning your trip, the two routes can be compared according to their start and destination, surface, connection to the coast and terrain profile. The information on the start, destination, surface and terrain profile therefore offers two different ways of interpreting them: a connection between places and a coastal route with changing path characteristics. This keeps the routes distinguishable as separate themes of the stay, without combining them into a single continuous route.
Culture
In Tarajalejo, the municipal visitor signage includes information about El Mareseum, a tourism and cultural project on Avenida Marítima.
The MARESEUM on Tarajalejo's Avenida Marítima is an open-air museum with five sea-inspired artworks by artists of various nationalities. The sculptures were created in November 2017 as part of the I Encuentro Internacional de Escultores de Tarajalejo, FÔRMAR 2017. For your own planning, you can consider this art venue as a cultural focus separate from the coast and cycle routes. The cultural focus can thus be classified independently alongside the town's sporting and landscape themes, with the named context of its creation providing a chronological reference.
Festivals
The Fiestas del Sagrado Corazón de María in Tarajalejo included sporting, cultural, religious and musical activities. For the 2026 edition, the period from 29 April to 10 May 2026 was scheduled. The fiestas ended with a traditional procession by sea.
