Telledo: Nature, Routes and Cultural Heritage
Telledo is a place where natural landscapes, routes and historical heritage come together. Las Ubiñas-La Mesa Nature Park lies in central Asturias, encompasses the municipalities of Lena, Quirós and Teverga, and was declared a biosphere reserve in 2012.
Routes and Landscapes
The Campumanes–Alto de La Cubilla road cycling route is a very difficult, 28-kilometre linear route from Campumanes to La Cubilla with 1,633 metres of cumulative ascent. It passes through Teyeo. There, it runs through woodland dominated mainly by oak trees before the forests give way to a high-mountain landscape with views of Las Ubiñas. The distance, elevation gain and changes in scenery provide clear points of comparison when planning different routes.
Culture and History
The Church of San Adrián de Telledo has a single-nave layout, a square presbytery and a sacristy attached to the left side. A porch is located along the façade and the right side.
The belfry bears the coat of arms of a noble family that has since disappeared. The church of Telledo has been extensively restored; its only surviving ancient feature is a chapel to the left of the presbytery, with a groin vault and an entrance framed by stonework.
El Curul.lu de Reconcos is included in the Inventory of the Cultural Heritage of Asturias (IPCA) and in the urban planning catalogue of the Lena municipality; it was added to the IPCA on 23 December 2013. El Curul.lu de Reconcos is a fortified spur of land with a small upper crown, three stepped terraces and a large defensive ditch.
The archaeological site of El Curul.lu de Reconcos, also known as El Curuchu and Campa’l Castiichu, is located in Reconcos in the parish of Teyeo. The monumental defensive ditch could point to a Roman phase whose date has not been determined more precisely.
Local Sights and Paths
The parish church of Santa María de Telledo stands in Los Pontones; four yew trees grow beside the parish church of Los Pontones in Telledo. A circular walking route from Los Pontones begins at the parish church’s large car park and leads onto the Camino de Pajares.
Festivals and Cuisine
The festival in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Los Pontones–Teyeo was announced for 19, 20 and 21 September 2025. It is regarded as a celebration that continues year after year in the parishes of Los Pontones and Telledo. At 9:30 p.m., a traditional Gran Corderada was scheduled to take place in the festival grounds, featuring corderu a la estaca, as well as salad, dessert, bread, wine, lemonade, coffee and a shot of spirits.
