Nature and Trails

Molino de Sabel is a rabil mill used to extract grain from the ears of cereal and is still in operation. The Las Ubiñas-La Mesa Natural Park covers areas of the municipalities of Lena, Quirós and Teverga. The Meicín Valley lies at the foot of Ubiña in Lena.

The Vía Carisa can be explored on foot or travelled by mountain bike. The Roman camp of Curriechos/Curriel.los was a seasonal camp and at times had approximately 1.5 km of active linear fortifications.

Culture

The Aula Didáctica del Prerrománico Asturiano de la Cobertoria is located in the former railway station building in La Cobertoria, Lena. The Aula serves as a tourist information centre for Lena and Asturias and comprises four thematically organised sections: an introduction, the Kingdom of Asturias, Asturian architecture and Santa Cristina de Lena. The Aula also features multimedia applications with reconstructions of Santa Cristina de Lena, Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo.

Santa Cristina de Lena is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features a single-nave building with barrel vaults and numerous external buttresses. Before visiting Santa Cristina de Lena, it is recommended that you make contact in advance.

Festivals

The Fiesta del Corderu takes place on the first Sunday of July each year at Prau L.lagüezos. It is classified as a festival of tourist interest and includes a traditional outdoor mass, bagpipers and dance groups. The Fiesta de La Flor is celebrated on the Monday after Easter with a procession accompanied by bagpipes and drums. The Festival de la Escanda takes place at the end of August.

Winter Sports

The Valgrande-Pajares ski resort has 30.6 km of ski runs. Valgrande-Pajares also has two cross-country ski trails, a ski touring route, two competition venues, childcare facilities and a dedicated tobogganing area. Valgrande-Pajares can be reached from both the Asturian and León sides via the N-630 and the Puerto de Pajares.
