Taramundi: Holiday apartments and houses

In Taramundi, traditional crafts, mill technology and historic cultural landscapes are found close together. The Museo de los Molinos de Mazonovo in O Mazonovo presents hydraulic installations as well as historic systems for milling and generating electricity. It comprises 19 mills: 8 manual, 6 hydraulic, 3 specially designed for children and 2 special mills. Visitors can operate and set most of the mills in motion themselves.

Culture and traditional crafts

Os Teixóis is classified as a cultural asset of particular interest in the category “historic ensemble”. The ethnographic ensemble dates from the 18th century and is based on the comprehensive use of the river’s water power. Its traditional architecture includes manor houses, cabazos and hórreos. Os Teixóis also has a traditional tavern and a picnic area where homemade food is offered.

The Centro de Artesanía de Bres has workshop, exhibition and sales areas as well as a training room. Visitors can learn about the manufacturing processes of the crafts represented there at close range. The Museo Etnográfico de Esquíos also preserves vivid evidence of rural life: it contains more than a thousand objects, including a 19th-century cabazo with a uniquely carved walkway. The museum offers a guided exhibition of rural tools, most of which were made in Taramundi, and has a functioning forge where knives by M. Lombardía continue to be produced.

The Ruta de los Ferreiros passes through a village where visitors can visit the workshops of two knife makers, and leads to the Museo de la Cuchillería in Pardiñas, where a demonstration of knife making can be seen. At the Museo de la Cuchillería, traditional techniques and knowledge are combined with newer designs and materials. The route also passes the Church of San Martín with its high 18th-century tower.

The Castro de Os Castros covers approximately 2 hectares and is one of the largest catalogued hill forts in the inland area of the Navia-Eo region. The excavated remains attest to settlement from the end of the Bronze Age or the early Iron Age through to the Roman period.

Paths and landscapes

The Ruta de Eiroá is a circular route covering large parts of the Cabreira River valley. On the outward leg, it follows mountain paths, while the return journey runs along paths on the valley floor. A section of Ruta 4 is used by both hiking and cycling routes.

The Ruta del Agua passes through native vegetation to a waterfall on the Salgueira River. At the same time, it runs through the Río Eo, Oscos e Terras de Burón Biosphere Reserve.

Geographical location

The Museo del Telar museum is located in the vicinity of Taramundi. In the wider regional area are the Palacio Marques de Santa Cruz palace, the Cofradia de pescadores museum and the Palacio de Trenor palace. The beaches Praia do Seborello, Playa Penarronda, Praia de Augasantas and Playa de las Catedrales are also located in this wider regional area.
