The Senda Verde de San Martín de Oscos is a 7.5-kilometre circular route with a low level of difficulty. It combines landscape, cultural heritage and nature, and leads through forests, villages and natural viewpoints. The route passes through the Río Eo, Oscos e Terras do Burón Biosphere Reserve; the Pena Teixeira iron mine, which can be visited, is nearby.

Hiking and Landscape

The Ruta Mina Carmina is a 9.4-kilometre, easy circular hiking route that begins in Samartín. It leads from Samartín to Monte de Marón and Mina Carmina, continues to Vilarín de Tresmonte and returns to Samartín. Mina Carmina was mined for silver, zinc and lead in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Ruta Piorno a Los Fornos is a 3.6-kilometre, easy out-and-back route starting in Piorno. It passes several circular stone Cortines, which were once used to protect beehives from animals. It also connects Piorno with Los Fornos, where mining was carried out on the slope of Mount A Zarra.

Culture and History

Casa de Cabeza da Vila is listed in Samartín as protected cultural heritage in the official inventory of Asturias. The Capilla de San Pedro in San Pedro d’Agüeira is likewise listed as protected cultural heritage in the official inventory of Asturias.

Casa de los Guzmanes preserves a beautiful heraldic entrance and is included in the cultural heritage inventory of Asturias. It dates from 1756 to 1770.

The Palacio de Mon was built in several construction phases over the course of the 18th century. It is an Asturian Baroque palace with Galician influences, an irregular floor plan and a central courtyard. Prior arrangements are required for interior visits.

Casa del Marco comprises five buildings with traditional living areas and spaces used for agriculture, including stables, a hayloft, a weaving room and a carpentry workshop. The complex illustrates the way of life of the region’s rural community up to the middle of the 20th century. On the grounds around Casa del Marco, visitors can see typical animals from an Asturian farm, including chickens, cows and a horse.

The Museo Etnográfico de Grandas de Salime is located in the vicinity of San Martín de Oscos. The ruins of Castro Chao Samartín are also nearby. In the wider regional surroundings of San Martín de Oscos are the Museo del Telar and the Centro de Recepción de Visitantes Alejandro Casona.
