Nevares: Palace, Vineyards and Cycling Route

In Nevares, the oldest part of the Palacio de Nevares is a tower dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, built in the Renaissance and Baroque styles.

Culture and History

In Parres, Nevares is one of the noble palaces whose construction began in the 16th century and continued in the 17th and 18th centuries. This palace includes extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Iglesia de San Antonio de Nevares was formerly the chapel of the Palacio de Nevares and is now the parish church of San Antonio. It has a single-nave layout and a square chancel covered by a rib vault. Inside is a polychrome coat of arms of the Estrada y Cordero de Nevares family.

Wine and Landscape

The vineyards of the Palacio de Nevares are protected from cold northerly winds by the Sierra del Sueve. Due to its location, Nevares has a mild microclimate that is protected from cold winds.

The grape varieties grown in the vineyards of the Palacio de Nevares include Albarín, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Mencía. A tasting of the estate's three flagship wines is included when visiting the vineyards and the Bodega Palacio de Nevares.

Free, signposted parking is available for customers of the Bodega Palacio de Nevares. Visits to the Bodega Palacio de Nevares are exclusively reserved for people aged 18 and over.

Cycling and Milling Tradition

The Entre Parres y Piloña cycling route runs along quiet roads and connects parishes between Parres and Piloña. After Nevares, Cereceza and Carrazal, it continues towards Sorribas and then runs along the Cúa and Piloña rivers.

The Molín de La Teyera in La Teyera, in the parish of Nevares, is still in operation. It is considered one of the best-preserved mills in Parres and is more than 400 years old.

The historical references create distinct points of emphasis: the palace combines Renaissance and Baroque styles with later extensions, while the Iglesia de San Antonio brings together its former function as a chapel and its current role as a parish church.
