Grandiella derives its character from a landscape where a mountain pass, protected nature and far-reaching views meet clearly defined hiking and cultural traces. The individual sites can be distinguished by nature, routes and history.

Landscape and Panoramic Views

The Área Recreativa de Viapará recreational area lies at a mountain pass between the foothills of the Sierra del Aramo and Monsacro, and at the same time within the protected landscape of the Sierra del Aramo.

From the Área Recreativa de Viapará, there are sweeping panoramic views of the municipalities of Riosa and Morcín, the city of Oviedo, the Picos de Europa, Monsacro and the Sierra del Aramo with the Angliru.

The two landscape references differ in their function: the mountain pass describes Viapará’s location between two mountain foothills, while the protected Sierra del Aramo provides the landscape setting. The panoramic view complements this classification with a series of named municipalities, urban areas, mountains and mountain ranges.

Other places you can discover from this location include Armada, Felgueras, La Cruz, Soto de Ribera, Santa Cruz de Mieres, El Bravo and Moreda.

When booking a holiday apartment in Grandiella, travel dates, layout or room category and cancellation conditions can be considered as practical details of the offer.

Hiking and Routes

The PR AS-122 Ruta de la Gamonal route passes through the brañas of Ortigales and Castrupín before reaching the artificial lake Toyu de Veguellina.

Access to the PR AS-122 route is via the local Ri-1 road from La Vega towards Grandiella, followed by Ri-2 through Viapará to the Cobayos car park.

The protected landscape of the Sierra del Aramo can be reached from Riosa via the RI-2, which leads to Grandiella.

For your own planning, you can consider the landscape, hiking, religious architecture and archaeology independently of one another. This keeps the course of a route, the geographical classification of the landscape and the various forms of cultural heritage as separate topics alongside one another, without combining them into a single excursion destination.

Culture and Archaeology

The San Pedro chapel has a square nave accessed through a portal with a round arch; a small porch projects in front of the portal.

The San Pedro chapel was restored in the 1980s. Its bell gable has a single opening.

Two Neolithic burial mounds were recorded in the area of Villallana within Grandiella; they were located on 17 May 1970.

Picu la Peral is an oval Castro tower with an irregular surface and dimensions of approximately 19 × 11 metres. Its fortification elements include a low rampart and a possible ditch.

Picu la Peral is associated with Grandiella, the parish of Vega in Riosa.
