Nieda: Ruta del Rey Pelayo, La Güelga and San Cosme

The Ruta del Rey Pelayo passes through Nieda and Narciandi on its descent to Cangas de Onís. The route is 22.6 km long and has 1,476 metres of cumulative positive elevation gain. Geographical setting

After leaving Cangas de Onís, a right turn branches off the AS-114 towards Següencu; shortly afterwards, you reach the first houses of Nieda. The local CO-2 road, the road to Següenco, runs through Nieda. The village lies at the first level of the mountain area; from the first houses, the peaks of the Picos de Europa become visible. Culture

The Ermita de San Cosme lies halfway between Nieda, Narciandi and Cabielles and belongs equally to all three villages. A pilgrimage takes place at the Ermita de San Cosme on 27 September. The building was extended so that it could serve as a school for many years; the writer Alejandro Casona taught at the former school of the Ermita de San Cosme.

The Fiesta de San Cosme has been celebrated jointly by Nieda, Narciandi and Cabielles since the mid-1990s. It includes a procession during which traditional bread offerings are brought to the chapel and subsequently auctioned among those present. The San Pedro Chapel is equidistant from Narciandi, Cabielles and Nieda. It has been recorded in the parish registers of Santa María de Cangas de Onís since the mid-16th century.
