Caño – Salmon on the Sella and Pilgrim Route to Covadonga

On the Sella in Caño lies the La Salmonera de Cañu salmon weir, where salmon can be observed swimming upstream to their spawning grounds. The Cañu station uses a historic dam, built in 1928, with artificial fish ladders and pools to make it easier for the salmon of the Sella to swim upstream. Walkways at La Salmonera de Cañu make it possible, with due caution, to move between the pools and observe salmon jumping at close range.

Nature

Cañeras is a 471-metre-long fishery protection area on the Sella. The Cañeras fishery protection area follows the course of the Sella alongside Cañu and El Barredo. The river course, dam, pools and walkways are different elements of the landscape.
