Beceña between Cultural Heritage and Routes along the Río Prunea
Beceña can be discovered through specific details: its cultural heritage, architectural forms, routes along the water, and trails for hiking and mountain biking. For travel planning, these perspectives can be considered separately: culture and architecture alongside the riverside landscape and hiking and cycling routes.
You can access other village pages via Labra, Peruyes, Arriondas, Perlleces, Covadonga, Soto De Cangas, Soto De La Ensertal and Corao.
When comparing a holiday apartment in Beceña, you can first compare the travel dates, room category, and cancellation conditions on the respective listing page. For the location decision, the cultural sites, riverside routes, and hiking and mountain-biking themes also provide useful points of comparison.
Culture
The Chapel of Santo Toribio de Beceña is listed in the Asturian Cultural Heritage Inventory as an inventoried building (IPCA-EI) and an inventoried archaeological site (IPCA-Y). The hórreo in Beceña, dating from around 1630, is very archaic. It has six pegollos and a low colondrame; it lacks engüelgos and gatos. Anyone interested in architectural forms can consider the date, construction, and missing elements separately.
Geographical Location
From Cangas de Onís, the approach follows the N-625 and then continues for approximately six kilometres on the AS-114 to just before Mestas de Con. From there, take the Ca-6 turn-off to Beceña. The Chapel of Santo Toribio de Beceña is located to the left of the village in a newer residential development.
Nature
Stage 4 of the GR-109 Asturias Interior runs from Benia de Onís to Cangas de Onís and passes through Beceña. From Beceña, the GR-109 follows the Río Prunea through riverside vegetation. The section of the GR-109 approaching Beceña follows the Río Prunea on a gentle descent towards Llenín. A yew tree stands in Beceña. Beceña is one of the villages offering panoramic views of the Picos de Europa.
For planning purposes, the stage route, riverside vegetation, gradient, and panoramic views can be considered as distinct aspects of the landscape.
Activities
The Ruta BTT GR-109 is a mountain-bike route with different types of surface. It is 33.5 km long, takes three hours, has an elevation difference of 1,050 m, and is rated as moderate in difficulty. The mountain-bike route leaves Beceña via a paved road, crosses a bridge, and reaches Llenín. After the turn-off to Beceña, the GR-109 is signposted with numerous posts, signs indicating directions and distances, and the typical red-and-white trail markings.
For planning purposes, the activity type, route length, and duration can be compared side by side.
For your own selection, the trail surfaces and the paved opening section can be considered separately, as can the length, duration, and elevation difference of the mountain-bike route. These contrast with the riverside vegetation and gentle descent along the Río Prunea as other aspects of the landscape. Another point of access is provided by the chapel and the hórreo's distinctive architectural features. This keeps the landscape, movement, and architectural heritage legible as separate themes of the village.
