History

The settlement history of the nearby Castro de San Chuis begins in the 8th century BC. From the middle of the 1st century AD, a Roman presence connected with intensive gold mining in the surrounding deposits can be documented there.

The nearby Castro de San Chuis is one of the most extensively excavated fortified settlements in Asturias and is protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest of the Principality of Asturias.

Routes

The official local road network designates the ALL-2 as the Riovena–Iboyo road and notes a turn-off to Abaniella. The ALL-2 also has a turn-off to the nearby archaeological site of Castro de San Chuís: it leads to San Martín de Beduledo and then continues through shady forests to the site located on the hilltop.

In Allande, the Ruta de las Estrellas is a 6-kilometre section of the Camino Primitivo that is suitable for observing the night sky. The Camino Primitivo stage from Pola de Allande to Berducedo is 17.4 kilometres long, runs entirely through Allande and includes the ascent to Alto del Palo. The different route formats help you tailor your plans to the desired length and theme.

Culture

The nearby church of San Juan de Villaverde is a rural, late Romanesque building that was not constructed before the 13th century. Its western main portal has a round arch resting on columns with carved capitals. Inside, it preserves a life-size Gothic crucifix as well as wall paintings depicting scenes from the lives of Christ and John the Baptist.
