Jarque de la Val presents a townscape that is particularly understood through its location: the houses are arranged around a hill, and the streets offer views across the broad valley. In the upper part of the town is the Mirador de La Val. From there, views extend across the valley and to the nearby villages. In this way, inhabited slopes and open landscape lie directly alongside one another.

Townscape and Landscape

An architectural detail can be seen on the ground floor of the Casa Consistorial. There, the entrance hall has three round arches. The remains of the old church of Jarque de la Val, dating from 1715, are also part of the town’s history. The Asociación Cultural El Torrejón has been active in Jarque de la Val since the 1980s. The townscape, historic buildings and cultural association life thus provide different ways of approaching the local history.

The landscape is also represented by the Fuente de la Salud. It is a shady resting place beneath tall poplar trees where you can watch the flowing water. In the wider regional surroundings of Jarque de la Val lies Monte Castelfrío, a mountain. The resting place beneath the poplars and the mountain in the wider surroundings represent two spatially different landscapes: water in the town on the one hand, and the wider regional surroundings on the other.

Cycling Route and Annual Festivals

The BTT TE/06 Ruta 21 Val de Jarque leads into Jarque de la Val. The Government of Aragón has catalogued and inventoried it as a tourist resource. The route adds a movement-oriented theme to the viewpoints, landscape and historic traces. Those who connect the impressions mentioned above will find both architectural and landscape-related points of interest, as well as active pursuits, in the town and its wider surroundings.

The Botarga is celebrated in Jarque de la Val on the weekend closest to 3 February. On 17 January, the festivals of San Blas and San Antonio are celebrated together with the same customs as in the past. On 23 April, San Jorge is celebrated as the Fiesta de la Cooperativa. On 15 August, the major summer festivals in honour of San Roque and the Virgen de Agosto take place. The dates therefore range from January and February through to August, with each featuring its own festivals and customs.

Art and Civic Participation

Another cultural facet is connected with an announced event: the fifth edition of the ATUAIRE art festival was announced for 2 May in Jarque de la Val. The festival combines art, music and civic participation. For this announced edition, exhibitions, workshops, live performances and theatrical presentations were planned at various locations in the upper part of the town. The combination of several art forms and the planned venues are what define this announced edition.
