Culture

The Carmen Monastery in Gea de Albarracín was built at the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century. Its church has three naves, the abandoned cloister has a decorated, double-stepped cornice, and the stone tower consists of four levels.

The parish church of San Bernardo in Gea de Albarracín dates from 1660 and has three naves, a polygonal apse and a three-storey tower. Gea de Albarracín also preserves traces of urban planning influenced by Arab and Mudéjar traditions.

Plaza de Obispo Eijo in Gea de Albarracín is a Renaissance square with arcades and a projecting structure with five semicircular-arched openings. The “Casa Grande de los Reyes de Aragón”, built entirely of dressed stone, has a formal staircase, is decorated with paintings and has a wooden gallery with columns and supports on its southern side. The 17th-century hermitage of San Roque has an atrium with classical columns and corbels.

Nature and Trails

The route between Bezas and Gea de Albarracín provides access to the protected Pinares de Rodeno landscape area and the Albarracín Cultural Park.

Fuente de La Casilla is a spring in a dense pine forest with a restored hut once used by resin workers. La Sargaleja is a valley landscape with around 2,000 planted poplar trees. It is also home to an old, restored livestock shelter that has been converted into a picnic area.

The remains of the Roman aqueduct are located in the Barranco de los Burros and Cañada y Hoya del Moro landscape areas. The area around the associated azud on the road from Gea de Albarracín to Albarracín has a picnic area.

Activities and Festivals

Gea de Albarracín has a permanent 3.5-kilometre enduro training course covering a total area of 15 hectares. There is also an area for bouldering. Enduro and bouldering therefore stand alongside each other as two different types of activity for travel planning.

Various focuses can therefore be combined when planning the day: the route and landscape areas lead to natural and cultural spaces, while enduro and bouldering represent distinct types of activity. The festivals add time-specific cultural events to this selection.

Around 20 August, Gea de Albarracín holds its patron saint festivals in honour of San Bernardo. The historical reenactment of the expulsion of the Moriscos was held for the 15th time and included theatre, handicrafts and traditional music.
