Lagata – Baroque Church, Water and Paths

The LA EXALTACIÓN DE LA SANTA CRUZ PARISH CHURCH in Lagata is Baroque and dates from the 17th century. The church has a three-part nave, two chapels and a choir gallery at the end of the nave.

Culture

The HERMITAGE OF SANTA BARBARA was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. The small building consists of rubble masonry and brick. The OLD FOUNTAIN consists of an underground watercourse with a chamber excavated like a water tank. It is accessible via a staircase through a pointed arch.

The religious buildings and the OLD FOUNTAIN emphasize different aspects: at the church, the nave, chapels and choir gallery can be considered as structural elements, while the hermitage is characterized by its small size as well as rubble stone and brick. The spring combines an underground watercourse, an excavated chamber, a staircase and a pointed arch into a distinctive architectural detail.

Water and Landscape

The El Prado area in Lagata lies between the Celcon irrigation channel and the Aguasvivas River. El Prado is considered an extensive green area created by the large amount of water flowing there. El Prado also has a spring-fed washhouse and a small park with picnic tables and a barbecue. The road to Lagata is lined with olive trees.

This picture is complemented by the park with its picnic tables and barbecue, as well as by the road to Lagata lined with olive trees.
