Rincón de la Victoria can be discovered through an exceptional site: the galleries of the Cueva del Tesoro contain remains from the Paleolithic and Bronze Age, as well as examples of prehistoric rock art. The Cueva del Tesoro is also one of only three known caves of marine origin in the world.
Culture
The Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana was built in 1766 by order of King Carlos III as a coastal defense facility against pirates. Today, it serves as an art space where cultural activities and art exhibitions are regularly held. Historical architectural heritage and contemporary cultural events thus come together at this site.
In Benagalbón, the Museo de Artes Populares preserves local roots and traditions. Among other things, visitors can see a traditional farmhouse with a living room, kitchen and bedroom, as well as typical agricultural equipment and work utensils from the region. The Roman archaeological site of Torre de Benagalbón includes a thermal complex with bathing rooms such as a frigidarium, caldarium and tepidarium, along with the remains of a garum factory. The Roman villa at this site has thirteen mosaics.
The Villa Antiopa conveys history through traditional and technologically advanced museographic methods – by seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling. Access to history there is therefore provided not only through written or visual information, but through several explicitly named forms of perception.
Nature and Activities
The Parque Arqueológico del Mediterráneo covers 90,000 square metres. Paths bordered by natural rocks run through the grounds, providing opportunities for peaceful walks. There is also a replica of walls with rock paintings inspired by finds from the Cueva del Tesoro. Rincón de la Victoria offers opportunities for water sports. The different types of activities can be considered separately when planning the day.
Archaeological impressions, peaceful paths and water sports thus stand alongside one another as clearly distinguishable focal points. Together with the museums, historic sites and local festival tradition, they create a selection that makes cultural, activity-oriented and culinary interests equally visible, without combining these subjects into a single experience.
Getting There and Visiting
The Mediterranean motorway A-7/E-15 runs through the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria and enables a direct journey to Málaga International Airport in 15 minutes. The specific time indication can be taken into account when planning the schedule.
For visits to the Cueva del Tesoro, advance reservation is required for safety reasons.
Cuisine
Every September, the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano takes place in Rincón de la Victoria. It combines traditional elements with fine dining and has been awarded the designation “Fiesta de Interés Turístico Provincial”.
