Benahavís is home to 32 of the 54 known dragonfly species in the province of Málaga. The Sendero de las Acequias crosses the Cañón de las Angosturas via a wooden bridge. It is an easy circular hike suitable for the whole family; on this route, you first reach the Poza de las Mozas.

The Sendero de las Libélulas del Guadalmina is a pleasant walking route for people with average physical fitness, provided they have no mobility limitations. Along the route there is a lime kiln as a testament to times gone by.

History and Culture

The route to Castillo de Montemayor begins in the centre of Benahavís and leads to a fortress from which up to 100 kilometres of coastline as well as the African coast can be seen.

More than ten centuries ago, Arab communities diverted part of the water from the Guadalmina River to irrigate their gardens and farms. The Torre de la Leonera in Benahavís is registered as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC).

The historical impressions therefore range from medieval water management and the fortress route to a registered cultural asset. Religious tradition provides another local connection, distinct from the nature or golf perspective. The individual themes can therefore be considered independently, giving the town several distinct cultural points of reference.

Local Life and Activities

You can stroll through the old town of Benahavís, have dinner on a restaurant terrace and sample tapas with beer or wine.
