Discover Huéscar: Culture, Nature and History

In the historic centre of Huéscar stands the Casa de los Penalva, one of Andalusia’s most significant and distinctive Modernist buildings. As a Bien de Interés Cultural classified as a Monument, it is listed in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Historical Heritage.

Culture and History

Its monumental façade, representative Art Nouveau interiors, elements of Historicist eclecticism, an interior courtyard inspired by the Alhambra and a Neo-Gothic oratory make up the architectural details of this building.

The Museo Interactivo Ciudad de Huéscar is housed in the Convento de San Francisco. Its tour leads through five rooms, each dedicated to a specific aspect of Huéscar’s history and culture.

The Torre del Homenaje forms part of the historic fortifications. It is a restored medieval section of Huéscar’s former defensive structures and serves as a viewpoint from which the city’s former defence system can be understood.

The tower is also a square defensive structure made of rammed earth and belonged to Huéscar’s former Muslim fortress.

The Piedra del Letrero is located in the municipality of Huéscar (Granada), on the path to the sanctuary of the Santas Mártires.
