Darro begins in the town centre with an architectural combination that brings together two regional traditions: Andalusian and Manchego architectural styles stand side by side here. Landscape

In the Anchurón area, the view extends across the rural surroundings, with extensive olive groves and colourful vineyards. The landscape is characterised by agricultural land and the colours of the vineyards. Access to the viewpoint requires driving on unpaved roads; off-road vehicles are recommended.

The Abrigos de Panoría form a group of five large rock shelters visible from the town of Darro. One of the shelters preserves an anthropomorphic rock painting of the “Swallow” type. At this site, the town therefore combines the visibility of the rock formations with a single preserved pictorial motif. The Abrigos de Panoría are accessed via unpaved paths; off-road vehicles are also recommended here.

Culture and history

The megalithic necropolis of Panoria comprises 19 documented tombs, five of which have been excavated. Their burial chambers consist of orthostats and have trapezoidal, polygonal or rectangular floor plans, as well as short access corridors. The different floor-plan shapes are just as much part of the necropolis’s architectural description as the stone material used and the short corridors. The necropolis was used from the Late Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age; its most intensive ritual activity took place during the Copper Age.

Cueva Horá also combines archaeological and geological dimensions. The archaeological site is located in Darro, in the province of Granada, and is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) in the category of archaeological zone; protection was granted on 12 February 2002. Its archaeological sequence extends from the end of the Lower Palaeolithic to later prehistory. Geologically, Cueva Horá is a rock shelter in the form of a natural bridge with a steep gradient. Celebrations

The patron saint celebrations in honour of San Tiburcio and Nuestra Señora del Amparo take place in Darro from 1 to 4 October. On 2 October, after Mass, the procession in honour of the Virgen del Amparo is carried exclusively by women. On 3 October, after Mass, San Tiburcio is carried through the streets of Darro exclusively by men. The two processions therefore belong to different feast days and are each dedicated to a separate venerated figure.
