Culture and history

The Ruinas visigodas del Cerro del Germo, also known as Cerro del Germo or El Germo, are a monument registered as a B.I.C. in the municipality of Espiel; the registration dates from 3 June 1931.

In El Vacar (Espiel), the Castillo de El Vacar is classified as cultural heritage of a defensive nature. An approximately square defensive area surrounded by thick walls remains of the Castillo de El Vacar; its sides measure 65, 59.5, 50.1 and 49.5 metres. It has four corner towers as well as four additional towers on each side.

The Puente Romano de Espiel visible today is said to date from 1731; there may previously have been an older bridge at this site, which was destroyed or severely damaged by flooding of the Guadiato River.
