If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Montemayor, the town’s architectural heritage, wine and landscape can be considered as different focal points.

Culture

The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is protected as a cultural asset in the Monument category and, together with the castle of the Counts of Alcaudete and Dukes of Frías, forms a monumental ensemble. The Tercia de Montemayor is located next to the castle in the highest part of the town, near the parish church and Plaza de la Constitución. It preserves its original roof structures and a rural fireplace of ethnological interest.

The Museo de Ulia houses an archaeological collection that illustrates Montemayor’s past in four rooms. The Museo de la Plata, located in the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, displays liturgical goldsmith’s work. These include two processional crosses from the 17th century and several works by the Cordoban goldsmith Damián de Castro dating from 1769 to 1777.

A major outdoor contemporary art festival transforms Montemayor into a museum town. Outside the town lies the Castillo de Dos Hermanas, an Arab fortress presumably built during Muslim rule on the Iberian Peninsula between the 9th and 11th centuries, about 7 km from Montemayor. Archaeological excavations have uncovered the circuit wall, several towers, the entrance arch to the arms yard, stables and other rooms.

Wine

At the Centro de Interpretación Memorias del Pedro Ximénez, panels and photographs illustrate the history and production of wine in the Montilla–Moriles area. The same centre contains wine barrels in which Pedro Ximénez is macerated.

Landscape and Paths

At the foot of the castle, a linear viewpoint offers views across the entire Campiña de Córdoba. From one viewpoint, the Ermita de San José, olive groves and traditional cultivated areas of the Campiña can also be seen. The linear route can be walked, ridden on horseback or cycled year-round. It is 7.3 km long and takes approximately 2 to 3 hours on foot.

The mode of transport, route length and approximate walking time provide different points of comparison for planning your own day. The route combines walking, horse riding and cycling options within an offer that can be used year-round.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Montemayor, the travel period, preferred room category and cancellation conditions may each play a role. This information can be considered alongside the town’s different themes: culture, wine and landscape each represent a distinct way of experiencing it. Choosing accommodation therefore remains a separate decision based on personal travel conditions and the desired setting.
