Pozoblanco: Holiday apartments between dehesa and culture

Pozoblanco is located in the largest dehesa in Andalusia. The landscape is considered one of the best-preserved landscapes in Spain, as well as one of the largest and oldest dehesas in Europe. Pozoblanco is part of a reserve and stands out for the special tourist use of its privileged surroundings.

Nature

Paths and trails run around Pozoblanco, lined by long dry-stone walls. In Pozoblanco, there are mountain-biking, trail-running and hiking routes through dehesa landscapes and olive groves in the uplands. Culture and history

A tour of Pozoblanco's historic centre begins at Plaza del Pozo Viejo. This is where the settlement originated in the 14th century; the first settlements developed around this place. The Sala Museo at the Coso de Los Llanos can be visited and presents more than 100 years of history. The tour includes access to six former grain silos. Each is 22 metres high and now serves as a small space for temporary exhibitions. A former grain store built in the mid-20th century was converted into an events venue with 800 seats in 2006.

The tour thus connects several periods: the origins at Plaza del Pozo Viejo, the museum's more than 100-year history and the later conversion of the former grain store. The six tall silos create a distinctive spatial feature within the temporary exhibitions.

Traditions

The pilgrimage of the Virgen de Luna is celebrated in Pozoblanco in February. Pozoblanco's Semana Santa includes the centuries-old Cantos de Pasión during Lent. The return journey of this pilgrimage to Pozoblanco is 14 kilometres long and passes through the dehesa, alongside stone walls.

These traditions are associated with different temporal and spatial contexts: February marks the date of the pilgrimage, the Cantos de Pasión belong to Lent, and the 14-kilometre return route takes the religious tradition back through the dehesa landscape.

Activities

The Campo de Golf de Pozoblanco is Spain's first municipal golf course. The largely flat 9-hole course is easy to play on foot. A visit to a curing facility ends with a tasting of Iberian products. During a visit to a finca, you can learn about the rearing of Iberian pigs from birth through to processing into a gourmet product.

Pozoblanco therefore offers different types of experiences side by side: routes through dehesa and olive groves, a largely flat 9-hole golf course, and insights into a curing facility and a finca.
