In Almodóvar del Río, the Castillo de Almodóvar stands on Cerro de la Floresta, a fortress built by the Arabs in 740 with nine towers, including the Torre del Homenaje. Both self-guided and guided tours are available at the castle. On a guided tour, Mr Men Rodríguez de Sanabria, an administrator and loyal knight of King Pedro I or, in his place, Queen Doña Blanca, leads visitors through the fortress's rooms and involves them in the experience.

Culture

On the banks of the Guadalquivir in Almodóvar del Río are the remains of a former landing place that may be of Roman origin and is known as Portus Romano. The site was recovered and restored for tourism, its access routes were prepared, and it can be reached on foot.

The Exposición Arqueológica Municipal covers the period from antiquity to the Islamic era. Exhibits include Iberian votive offerings, amphora handles with stamps, terra sigillata, Roman coins, Andalusian pottery and a reconstructed Neolithic hut. The Ruta del Casco Histórico is a tour through Almodóvar del Río's historic civil and religious buildings, as well as its important streets and squares; it takes more than 30 minutes and also leads to the Exposición Arqueológica Municipal.

The Museo Etnológico presents the history of agriculture and livestock farming in Almodóvar del Río and the province of Córdoba. It displays more than 4,000 items; its collection, continuously assembled since 1970, includes pieces from the 13th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and also illustrates the development of mechanisation and the Industrial Revolution. Another exhibition is dedicated to sewing machines and bullfighting posters: it comprises more than 500 posters from 1887 to 1970 and almost 200 sewing machines, the oldest of which dates from 1860.

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Rosario is probably dated to the 18th century, when the present-day chapel was presumably built. After a final renovation in 1975, it acquired its current appearance. Its Baroque portal has a straight termination and a broken pediment, a niche flanked by volutes, three pinnacles and a bell gable. At the beginning of the 20th century, the ermita was used as a school.
