History

The Roman city of Barbésula is located in Guadiaro but is not accessible to visitors. The iron bridge over the river near Guadiaro was opened to traffic in 1929; known as the Puente de Hierro, it is a defining landmark of Guadiaro. Culture

Parque Barbésula is located on Guadiaro's festival grounds. Its design is thematically based on Guadiaro's Roman origins. The park includes a 20-meter-long and 6-meter-high Roman fort with two stainless-steel slides.

During the annual Corpus Christi celebration, the Virgen de los Dolores is carried from the church in Guadiaro to Pueblo Nuevo and then back again. Every year around this time, she is carried in a procession through the streets of the district – in thanksgiving that no one was injured when the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario collapsed on May 29, 1983.

Local Life

The Feria de Guadiaro 2026 was planned as a multi-day local festival featuring a coronation ceremony, a parade and Domingo Rociero. A street market takes place in Guadiaro on Fridays.

Nature

The Estuario del Río Guadiaro is a small wetland on the eastern coast of the Province of Cádiz with diverse birdlife; ospreys, spoonbills and flamingos are frequently seen there.
