Coast and Water Sports
La Barrosa is a very wide beach, almost 8 km long, with showers, a promenade and lifeguards. Ramps and wooden walkways extending to the middle of the beach are available for people with disabilities. The beach is suitable for walks.
La Barrosa is recommended for surfing by both experienced surfers and beginners. Kitesurfing is recommended at La Barrosa and next to the Castillo de Sancti Petri.
Nature and Cycle Paths
The 5.4 km footpath and cycle path between San Fernando and Chiclana runs through the Bay of Cádiz Natural Park. It leads from the starting point known as the La-Vaera Bridge in San Fernando to Chiclana's fairgrounds and forms part of the EuroVelo 8 cycle route.
The Chiclana section crosses the Caño Bartivás and the Río Iro via footbridges. The route therefore connects different landscape impressions and can be clearly distinguished from the paths through the pine woodland.
The Parque forestal Pinar del Hierro y La Espartosa offers paths through pine woodland, outdoor fitness equipment and sports facilities. The park also provides a habitat for the chameleon.
Access to the Marismas de Sancti Petri nature area is restricted.
History and Culture
Nueva Gadeira showcases archaeological remains of an ancient Phoenician-Punic city. The site remains inhabited to this day, and numerous relics are still visible.
Free guided tours of the visitor centre, the +20 Platform and the Torre Mirador are offered at Nueva Gadeira.
The Museo de Chiclana covers local history from prehistory to the present day, including the origins of the city and the Napoleonic period. It is housed in the Casa de Briones and features exhibitions, presentations and collections related to local traditions.
The Iglesia de San Juan Bautista is an important neoclassical religious landmark in the province of Cádiz. Its interior preserves paintings attributed to the school of Zurbarán.
Semana Santa is one of the traditional celebrations in Chiclana.
Wine and Salt
Chiclana's winemaking tradition includes Finos, Olorosos, Moscateles, white wines, Creams, red wines, vermouth and Amontillados from the Marco de Jerez.
The Centro de Interpretación del Vino y la Sal includes the Colección Marín, an exhibition area about famous dolls and a memorial to their creator. The visitor experience there also covers salt extraction, the production of Flor de Sal and the wines of Chiclana.
San Fernando-Bahía Sur is the closest railway station to Chiclana. From there, there is a direct bus connection to Chiclana; the city can also be reached by tram from the Río Arillo commuter train stop.
Chiclana has municipal and regional buses, taxis and a tram connection to San Fernando and Cádiz all year round, 365 days a year.
