Landscape

The 36.5-kilometre Camino Natural Vía Verde de la Sierra runs through Coripe and includes four viaducts, 30 tunnels and five stations. Along the route of the Vía Verde de la Sierra in Coripe lies the Chaparro de la Vega Natural Monument: a holm oak more than 700 years old with a crown diameter of 23 metres.

Between Coripe and Olvera, the Peñón de Zaframagón Nature Reserve extends over 448 hectares. Its characteristic features include its karst morphology, including the Estrechón gorge, carved out by the Guadalporcún River. The natural landscape is complemented by the Observatorio de Buitres Leonados. There, a night-vision camera enables observation of the significant vulture colony as well as large parts of the nesting and living areas on the Peñón.

A nature and ornithological interpretation centre is located in a restored former railway station on the Vía Verde de la Sierra. Information panels there focus on the area's fauna, flora, geology, history and geographical location.

Culture and festivals

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro Apóstol dates from 1859. It preserves the Baroque dome of the previous building and the former Carmen Chapel, which now serves as a tabernacle.

One of the defining traditions is the Quema del Judas, which is recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional de Andalucía. In Coripe, it takes place after the procession of the risen Christ on Easter Sunday. Another religious tradition is the Catholic Romería to the chapel of the Virgen de Fátima. It takes place every year on the second Sunday in May and leads pilgrims in decorated vehicles, on horseback and on foot to the Chaparro de la Vega area.
