Discover Blato: Holiday Apartment, Pond and Village History

The Ribnik Blato pond is located in the village of Blato near Trebnje. Its history began with the rehabilitation of a clay pit belonging to the former ceramic tile industry in Račje Selo. This transformation created a place where water management, village heritage, nature observation and various leisure activities exist closely alongside one another.

Nature

At Ribnik Blato, anglers and villagers have breathed new life into the area known as “blata”. Locals describe it as a quiet part of the village. Ribnik Blato and its surroundings are maintained by members of Ribiška družina Novo mesto. The combination of local involvement and association work is therefore as much a part of the water body’s character as its origins in a former clay pit.

Different forms of perception come together by the water. During a nature excursion at Ribnik Blato, life in and around the water was observed. As part of an educational activity, schoolchildren used an orienteering trail around Ribnik Blato. Nature observation and orienteering thus exist side by side in different contexts.

Culture

On the way to Ribnik Blato stands a “toplar”, a double kozolec, which was relocated and restored in 2004. A small ethnological museum can be visited beneath an old toplar kozolec at Okrepčevalnica Florijan. The traditional wooden structures and the museum site form independent stops within Blato’s cultural surroundings.

The small museum uses original old objects to present part of the local history. This means that the focus does not remain on a single structure, but also turns to objects connected with the place’s past. The visit beneath the old toplar kozolec retains its special connection to Okrepčevalnica Florijan.

Things to do

Okrepčevalnica Florijan offers quiet walks by the lake as a leisure activity. Short organized hikes are also offered at Okrepčevalnica Florijan. The two forms differ in character: a quiet walk by the lake stands alongside an explicitly organized, short hike.

Okrepčevalnica Florijan is approximately 3 km from Trebnje railway station and bus station. The distance is explicitly approximate and refers to both transport points in Trebnje.

Golf

The Blato golf course is certified as a Pitch-&-Putt course by the Pitch-&-Putt Association of Slovenia. The Blato golf facility has a covered practice area, so it is possible to train there even when it rains. This adds a weather-independent training option to the stay without equating the course’s certification with the practice area.

In the 2021 season, the Blato Pitch&Putt Golf Club’s programme included regular weekly courses for children and other groups, as well as a golf camp for children. Thus, both recurring courses and a separate camp are documented for this season.
