Roginska Gorca: Viticulture, Landscape and Trails

Roginska Gorca is part of a wine-growing area with a settlement landscape in which vineyard cottages are combined with buildings for temporary stays. Viticulture and this distinctive form of development therefore define two closely interconnected features of the area. Between the vineyards and the small temporary-stay buildings, a landscape emerges in which agricultural use and settlement are directly connected.

Viticulture and Cultural Heritage

The Roginska and Cmereška Gorca wine-growing area is designated as the cultural heritage area EŠD 26182. This designation supplements the viticultural aspect with a clearly defined cultural and historical reference, making the connection between landscape, land use and settlement form visible.

Nature and Landscape

In Roginska Gorca, a hilly landscape mosaic of arable land, meadows, pastures, orchards, vineyards and forests shapes the character of the area. Fields, meadows and pastures stand alongside fruit growing, viticulture and wooded areas. As a result, open and vegetated areas alternate within the landscape, while the vineyards continue the connection to the regional settlement landscape.

Trails and Viewpoints

The Marijina romarska pot runs along a ridge through Roginska Gorca and Bezgovica. On Rudnica above Podčetrtek and Olimje stands the Tower of Health and Joy observation tower; its highest platform is 35.23 metres high. The ridge trail connects Roginska Gorca and Bezgovica, while the observation tower on Rudnica forms a single, precisely named elevated point.

Roginska Gorca was included in a walk to the remains of old orchards in the Kozjansko area. During an orchard walk, the Roginska Gorca bus stop served as the return point. On the road through Roginska Gorca, a side trail branches off before Tinsko and leads towards Rudnica. Thus, alongside the ridge trail, the side trail, the orchard remains, the return point and the observation tower serve as independent reference points in the described trail network.

The trails run along a ridge, towards Rudnica or through the landscape of the Kozjansko area. Together with the observation tower and the old orchards, they create a picture made up of linear trail routes, a single elevated point and traces of earlier garden use.
