Holiday apartment in Lesično: Water Trail and Culture
Lesično lies at the confluence of the Zagorski potok and the Bistrica. The densely clustered settlement centre combines prominent evidence of the village’s history with a Water Trail that leads to nearby Pilštanj in a compact area.
Culture
The Church of Sv. Urh, a Gothic church dating from 1394, stands in the centre. It was remodelled in the 18th century; its interior received a vault and its furnishings in 1750. The church also contains a statue of Sv. Urh from the 15th century, dated to the years 1430 to 1440. Experts consider it one of the finest Gothic sculptures in Kozjansko.
On a village meadow in the centre of Lesično, near the church, stands the monument to the “Premišljujoči Kristus”. The seated figure of Christ stands on a Tuscan column with a base into which the year 1713 is carved. Further historical traces can be found in the blacksmithing tradition: During the peasant uprising of 1573, Lesično had a well-known smithy associated with the castle weaponsmith Pavla Šterca. The blacksmithing tradition continued into the present day. At a road junction, an NOB monument commemorates the victims of the occupation.
Nature
The Bistrica and its tributaries are a hydrological and ecosystem-related natural asset of national importance. The village well in Lesično also reflects the local connection with water: It has a masonry base and a wooden structure with a four-sided hipped roof, typical of the village wells in this area.
The Lesično Water Trail connects wells and water springs and provides information about the natural and cultural heritage of this area. The Lesično–Pilštanj Water Trail leads from the Church of Sv. Urh in Lesično along the Bistrica to Pilštanj and back to the primary school in Lesično via the ruins of Drenski grad.
At 1,800 metres in length, the Lesično–Pilštanj Water Trail is suitable for a peaceful walk for all generations. Along the way, the route connects the church, the course of the Bistrica, Pilštanj, the ruins of Drenski grad and the primary school in Lesično in one continuous trail.
