Štorje: Holiday Apartment, Culture and Gin Tradition
Štorje presents its history particularly vividly through the Church of St. John the Baptist. It is designated as a cultural monument of local importance. The present-day neoclassical church building was erected on the site of an earlier church dating from the mid-17th century and was built following the model of the Church of St. Anthony the New in Trieste.
Culture and History
Next to the Church of St. John the Baptist in Štorje are the ruins of a former anti-Turkish camp. On Sunday, 18 January 2026, a traditional commemorative ceremony in honour of the partisan Marjan Štoka took place in Štorje. During the ceremony, wreaths were laid at the Marjan Štoka monument and at the monument to the victims of violence and those who fell from the village and its surroundings. The 2026 commemorative ceremony also included a hiking and running route from Prosek via Repno, Voglje, Križ and Grahovo Brdo to Štorje.
Stoneworking
The Stone Gallery is accessible by prior arrangement only. Its collection includes stones, stoneworking tools and photographs that convey the history of stoneworking in the Karst. At the Stone Gallery, Gabrijel Jeram presents a collection of stones and old stoneworking tools. With the support of the Stone Gallery curator, visitors can make their own stone souvenir.
Nature and Trails
A section of the Želodkova Forest Educational Trail is explored on excursions in Štorje with tourist guides. Guided excursions also use a circular educational trail around Štorje.
Culinary Traditions
Pr' Komarjevih is a small family business that has been operating since 1850 and is primarily dedicated to producing Teran. Later, Komarjev medeni gin B+ was also produced at Pr' Komarjevih; it is refined with Karst honey and herbs.
The basic gin tasting at Pr' Komarjevih includes three different gin flavours and a homemade snack from the Karst. The distillation process, different types of gin and their history, as well as the herbs of the Karst, are presented during the tasting. Tastings at Pr' Komarjevih are available by prior arrangement only.
