In Šmarjeta, wine tasting, culture and opportunities for walking and cycling come together. At the “Izvir cvička” wine fountain complex, four of the five automated taps are used for wine tasting; wines from the surrounding vineyards are available.

Wine and regional products

Moletova hiša also brings together Šmarjeta’s local character. It houses a tourist information centre that informs visitors about the Šmarješke Toplice destination and helps them find their way around. Moletova hiša also has a small shop selling local products and souvenirs.

Culture and local history

The cultural attractions include St. Margaret’s Church in Šmarjeta, which was built between 1909 and 1928. Inside, visitors can view a 17th-century painting of the Crucifixion. Dvorec Gregorčič offers another historical connection: the building is the birthplace of the Slovenian ornamental artist Jože Karlovšek. Selected Slovenian wines are also served at Dvorec Gregorčič.

Circular route and cycling route

For walking through the landscape, there is the Šmarjeta hiking route, a 6 km circular route. The trail returns to its starting point and therefore has a clearly recognisable circular structure. Another option is the “Ob vznožju Gorjancev” cycling route. It is suitable for all cyclists, explicitly including less experienced cyclists and families. The two routes therefore differ in their mode of travel, while the cycling route is particularly broad in its target group.

Around Šmarjeta

Several notable destinations are located at varying distances and in different spatial relationships to the destination. Pleterje Monastery is situated in the area around Šmarjeta, as is Trdinov Vrh mountain. In the wider regional area are Oklinak mountain, the Boršt peak and Ravnina mountain. These three landscape references are therefore not part of the immediate surroundings, but of Šmarjeta’s wider regional area.
